RESUMO

My research project aims to analyse Young Adult (YA) literature with lesbian and bisexual protagonists written in English by Irish women. This analyses comprises a variety of objectives such as to provide a critical assessment of the representation of the lives of lesbian and bisexual teenagers in Ireland and of how lesbianism and bisexuality have been introduced in Irish YA fiction, and to evaluate the social changes that Ireland has experienced concerning the rights of the LGBT+ community, on the basis of the influence that catholic nationalism has had in the lives and identities of this community in the country. A corpus composed by a selection of different YA novels written in English by Irish female writers will be analysed using feminist and queer theoretical frameworks, paying particular attention to the representation of the protagonists.
